On Earth Peace and Kids As Peacemakers Partnership

In the fall of 2008, On Earth Peace, an agency of the Church of the Brethren, announced a new partnership with Kids As Peacemakers for their supporting congregations and peacemakers interested in involving children in their ministry.  This new ministry is linked through their current Peace Education programs.

On Earth Peace provides the skills, support, and spiritual undergirding needed to face violence with active nonviolence and helps build thriving families, congregations, and communities.  Through education, organizing and conflict transformation, On Earth Peace equips the church to serve a blessed and broken world with faith-based peace and justice ministries.

On Earth Peace and Kids As Peacemakers will work together in 2009 to bring the Kids As Peacemakers Mural Program to as many as ten congregations throughout the Church of the Brethren family.  Plans are under way in Easton, Maryland, where the Easton Church of the Brethren will initiate the program with three other Christian churches in May.

Marie Rhoades is the On Earth Peace Education Program Coordinator and co-author of a new faith-based curriculum.  The new curriculum, based on curriculum developed earlier by Barbara Holtz for Kids As Peacemakers, integrates the message of peace and peaceful living with the faith witness so important to the Church of the Brethren members.
